What I ate today #6

Aloha readers!

So today I am being extra nice (after being so horrible and leaving you all) and posting twice!

It’s one of those weird human things…we like seeing what other people eat. I’m guilty of it, you’re guilty of it so let’s all have a party and embrace it??

Today I ate quite a bit differently than I usually do. I tend to focus more on raw foods as opposed to cooked, but hopefully some of you who do prefer to eat cooked or who are possibly following the Starch Solution can benefit from this. 🙂

Breakfast: Medjool Dates

I had a meeting this morning and had to be up much earlier than my preference, and I like to take my time! What does that call for? Dates. Fast, easy, healthy, sugary. I took about 8 with me (I wasn’t super hungry, early mornings…ew). Alongside I also drank a litre of lemon water.

Lunch: Buckwheat Pancakes

Spontaneously my mom and I decided for go out for brunch! If you are in the area Heirloom Vegetarian in is one of the best vegetarian, vegan-friendly, plant-based  restaurants in Vancity. I haven’t been since November of last year and they really changed things up a bit. Thankfully my favourite pancakes were still happily on the menu so of course I had them! Complete with a strawberry compote and cashew cream, they hit the spot! I also had a bite of my moms vegan sandwich which had roasted red pepper, eggplant, sprouts and walnut cheese. Definitely a little too oily for my preferences but still quite amazing!

Plus, their decor is pretty rad. “I Yam what I Yam”, “I don’t eat my friends” what’s not to love?

Dinner: Rice and Potatoes

Those pancakes kept me full all the way up until dinner. I suppose you could say I unintentionally followed more of a starch solution diet today, focusing more on things like cooked grains and spuds rather than high-raw, high-fruit like I usually eat. I had one cup of white basmati rice, two yellow potatoes and two sweet potatoes with cinnamon and coconut sugar.

IMG_5015I will always push eating a diet rich in high-water foods like fruit as they are just so beneficial to the body. Plus I have so much more energy during the day, whereas cooked foods weigh me down more. However, I understand eating all raw foods isn’t for everyone, especially when first transitioning to veganism. It’s definitely something to experiment with for each individual!
